"Ed Force one" in Zürich, 1.6.2016

In June 2016, a special guest landed in Zurich: a Boeing 747-400 of "Air Atlanta Icelandic". The plane is currently chartered by the band "Iron Maiden" for their world tour and it is named "Ed Force One" after the band's mascot, Eddie, who has appeared on all of their album covers, and graces the plane's tail. On its fuselage the Boeing 747 has etched the band’s tour dates including Lucerne, where the Band played a concert on June 3th. It is not the first time that the band is touring with its own machine around the world. Until last year, a Boeing 757 was used by the band. But for current tour in which the band plays in 36 countries, the 757 was too small. The new “Ed Force One” takes the band, crew and over 12 tons of equipment around the world and it is sometimes flown by Bruce Dickinson, lead singer of the band. Dickinson is a qualified pilot, he worked for an airline and occasionally he flies the Boeing 747 as he did on flight CC666 from Berlin to Zurich on June 1st.

Am 1. Juni 2016 landete ein besonderer Gast auf dem Flughafen Zürich: eine Boing 747-400 der "Air Atlanta Icelandic". Die Landung eines Jumbos ist keine Seltenheit, besonders an dieser Maschine ist deren Bemalung. Die Maschine wurde nämlich von der Band "Iron Maiden" für ihre Welt-Tournee gechartert. Am Heck prangert Eddie, das Cover-Monster der gleichnamigen Platte der Band und vorne am Rumpf sind alle Stationen der «The Book of Souls World Tour» aufgeführt, darunter in der Mitte der dritten Spalte auch Luzern, wo die Briten am Freitag, 3. Juni ein Konzert spielten. In Anspielung an die amerikanische Präsidentenmaschine "Air Force one" trägt die Maschine den Spitznamen "Ed Force one". Es ist nicht das erste Mal, dass die Band mit einer eigenen Maschine um die Welt tourt. Bis letztes Jahr war das Transportmittel eine Boeing 757. Doch für aktuelle Tour, bei der die Band in 36 Ländern auftritt, war die 757 zu klein. Kurzerhand wurde eine 747 gechartert mit genügend Platz für das ganze Material. An Bord hat die Band zwölf Tonnen Equipment. Dass die Band "Iron Maiden" mit einer eigenen Maschine tourt, ist dem Sänger Bruce Dickinson zu verdanken. Dickinson ist ausgebildeter Pilot, er arbeitete zeitweise für eine Airline und lässt es sich auch nicht nehmen, das bandeigene Flugzeug gelegentlich selbst zu steuern, so auch beim Flug CC666 von Berlin nach Zürich.
